Some days you feel like you’ve got it all together. Life flows, you are productive at work or in your business, family life runs with ease. And then there are other days, where you feel like you could just pull the duvet back over your head and hide for the day, and often you do.

Frustratingly not knowing how to pre-empt these days where you feel foggy-headed, low and completely unproductive means that sometimes you may feel like you are taking 2 steps forward and 1 backwards all the time. Perhaps it’s causing you to feel demotivated? Or it may even be causing you to put your dreams on hold.

According to the World Health Organization, 3.6 percent — or about 264 million individuals worldwide — have an anxiety disorder. Additionally, 4.6 percent of females and 2.6 percent of males globally are affected by anxiety. Many cannot access affordable mental health therapy or programs due to affordability.

It’s time to take a look at what anxiety actually is, understanding why it happens and then how to release yourself and manage the anxiety spiral.

  • Future tripping - you are never able to enjoy the present moment and are worried about everyone and everything in the future
  • Exhaustion - you may be experiencing sleeplessness and coupled with constant worrying it’s making you feel very run down
  • Overwhelmed - your day-to-day tasks at home and at work seem impossible 
  • Paralyzed by indecision - you second-guess yourself and this causes decision making to be difficult and slow. You may feel like you are in a constant brain fog
  • You might feel ok the majority of the time, but then occasionally, for reasons you can’t fathom you start to feel like you are drowning
  • Heightened sense of panic - you might find yourself short-fused and snappy with yourself and others because you feel out of control
  • Feeling like you are failing at everything - curling up in bed, cancelling your appointments and running away
  • Feeling low - perhaps you are self-medicating to numb your feelings with food/alcohol/shopping/Netflix
  • You may be experiencing physical symptoms - racing heart rate, headaches, acute IBS and insomnia
