Why this Breath and Body Trauma Recovery Course?

Our autonomic nervous system is responsible for our ultimate survival. When we feel threatened, our brain and body will initiate a stress response to protect us. When things have calmed down, a relaxation response should be initiated, which allows the body to return to normal.
After trauma, sometimes this process isn’t there anymore. Our stress response is very high, and it’s constant, therefore the body finds it difficult to self-regulate. It is in a near-constant state of high alert, which perpetuates the state of stress, tension and anxiety.
This course offers exercises that will help to regulate the body and differentiate between real threats and what isn’t. It will help to initiate the rest and digest function, calming the autonomic system and standing the body down from the constant alert state.

Ultimately, it ensures you can live a full life even with past trauma, stress and anxiety

Ultimately, it ensures you can live a full life even with past trauma, stress and anxiety

Calming down your autonomic nervous system so that you can feel the relief of releasing the symptoms of past trauma and PTSD

  • In prehistoric times our fight, flight or freeze response was there to protect us from predators. When the threat was gone, our bodies then relaxed and returned to a calm state - all of this is the responsibility of the autonomic nervous system
  • However in modern life, external circumstances cause us to be in a constant state of high alert (fight, flight or freeze) and therefore our bodies don’t self-regulate back to that calm state.
  • Being stuck in this stressed state has significant impact to our health, with physical issues such as tension headaches, migraines and joint pain as well as chronic stress and anxiety.
  • A common treatment by our health care professionals is to prescribe drugs for each of the emotions we are feeling, which have their place but they are not addressing the imbalance in our autonomic nervous system.
  • Pharmaceutical companies also have jumped on the bandwagon and offer many over the counter stress reducing drugs.
  • Drugs clearly haven’t helped society, in fact they have made things worse by creating dependencies and a lot of adverse side affects. We’ve been doing this since the 60’s yet as a society we still have high levels of chronic anxiety, stress and trauma.
  • To get balance back we need to focus on healing our autonomic nervous system and calming down our vagus nerve activation, whilst also re-teaching our body to calm down.
  • We need to upskill the body, and the brain and teach ourselves body oriented therapy.
  • These body oriented exercises help you to release tension, anxiety and stress held in the body. Each person will feel this response differently - e.g. in the chest, the hands, the joints, the legs or stiffness in the neck.
  • These exercises are geared towards self-regulation and maintaining some form of balance and normality (whatever that looks like for you).
  • They will restore the flexibility in how our autonomic nervous system reacts and works for us, allowing us to restore and reset the body helping us to regulate our behaviour.
  • Through these exercises you’ll create a more resilient body moving forwards and the more you do them the less threatened you will feel in the long run.

I can help you on this journey with the Breath and Body Trauma Recovery Course.

This Breath & Body Trauma Recovery course is based on research by Stephen Porges, author of Polyvagal Theory, Stanley Rosenberg, Deb Dana and Peter A. Levine.

They discuss the fact that our autonomic nervous system has specific functions in the human body and these are extremely important, and an integral part of our nervous system.

It monitors and regulates our nervous system and is in charge of our heart, lungs, liver, gall bladder, kidneys and sexual organs. Any problems with these organs will create dysfunctions in our autonomic nervous system resulting in irregularities, disease, anxiety and stress.

You can expect to make a 100% improvement if you do the exercises each day, track what works best for you and spend time reflecting on your progress. You have been given all of the information and tools needed to succeed.
